What Are We Waiting For?

Has anyone ever noticed that we spend a lot of time waiting? In a world of fast food, high speed Internet, mind blowing technology, instant this, and microwavable that, there is really still an enormous amount of waiting and anticipation. It struck me last week like a ton of bricks. We wait for the programs to load, things to connect, we wait on hold for a person to answer, we wait to get a call back, we here in the Northeast have been waiting for the snow to stop, for the driveway to be plowed, for the snow to thaw, for the weather to warm up, we wait for checks in the mail, we wait for the commercials to be over, we wait for test results, we wait for traffic lights, we wait for parts to come in, and we wait, and we wait, and we wait!

I don't usually complain, but I am tired of waiting! Maybe my whining about waiting and these on-going bouts of anticipation stem from my focus at work. I am wearing my sell hot fudge hat, make the business grow chapeau, open new accounts cap, look at new options beret, get the word out there....sell, sell, sell, mode. Don't get me wrong, I love to sell and I really do believe in the old adage, " if it is worth having, it is worth waiting for." I hope so, because the longer I work in sales, the more I believe that waiting and patience is half of the battle. Sales today seem to be synonomus with wait.

What is wrong with the world? Can't anybody hurry up and make a decision? You wait for samples to arrive, wait for the decision maker to review them, wait for an appropriate time to email or call for follow-up, wait for the voicemail return, wait for a decision, wait on the paperwork to be set up, wait for an order........wait, wait, wait. Sometimes I wonder how anything gets done in this constant world of anticipation. Unfortunately, there are not too many solutions to this situation except to keep moving forward, and enjoy the wait!
